The Move Component SolidWorks eDrawings tool move Moving Components tool lets you move components in an assembly file or in a drawing file of an assembly. The SolidWorks eDrawings Viewer ignores mates, allowing full degrees of freedom. You can also move subassemblies as a unit.

To move components:

  1. Open a CAD or SolidWorks eDrawings assembly or drawing file of an assembly.

  2. Click Move Component SolidWorks eDrawings tool move Moving Components (Components tab SolidWorks eDrawings tab components Moving Components) or Tools, Move Component.

  3. In the dialog box, select an option:

    • Free drag. Lets you select a component and drag it to a new position.

    • Use triad or enter values. Lets you use the triad to constrain component movement to a coordinate axis or plane, or to rotate components about a coordinate axis.

      If you drag the triad by:

      • An arm, the component is dragged along the axis of the arm.

      • A wing, the component is dragged along the coordinate axis.

You must select a component to define these settings:

  • Position SolidWorks eDrawings move position Moving Components. Lets you set the units and SolidWorks eDrawings position x Moving Components, SolidWorks eDrawings position y Moving Components, and SolidWorks eDrawings position z Moving Components coordinates of the triad. Click Apply after setting the coordinate values.

  • Translate Delta SolidWorks eDrawings move translate Moving Components. Lets you set the units and increment values in   SolidWorks eDrawings delta x Moving Components, SolidWorks eDrawings delta y Moving Components, and SolidWorks eDrawings delta z Moving Components for the triad. Click SolidWorks eDrawings minus Moving Components or SolidWorks eDrawings plus Moving Components to change X, Y, and Z by the increment value.

  • Rotate SolidWorks eDrawings move rotate Moving Components. Lets you set the angle in degrees by which the component rotates about the X, Y, and Z axes. Click SolidWorks eDrawings minus Moving Components or SolidWorks eDrawings plus Moving Components to change SolidWorks eDrawings delta x Moving Components, SolidWorks eDrawings delta y Moving Components, and SolidWorks eDrawings delta z Moving Components by the increment value.

  1. Click Move Component SolidWorks eDrawings tool move Moving Components again to release the tool.

    SolidWorks eDrawings tip Moving Components Moved components remain in their new positions if you save the file. If you close the file without saving, all components return to their original positions the next time you open the file.

To return components to their original positions:

  • To return an individual component to its original position, in Move Component mode, right-click the component and select Undo Move.

  • To return all components to their original positions from any mode, click Home SolidWorks eDrawings tool home Moving Components or View, Home.
